Sparkle N Sprinkle Unicorn Party card [07.18.2018]

Today’s card is using the new Unicorn Party digital stamp set, one of Sparkle N Sprinkle's new July stamp releases. I just loved this sweet little unicorn. I wanted to showcase all the images, and make it feel like a party. Let’s check out what I created using this awesome digi stamp set.

I started out by sizing all my images in a Word document and then I printed them with my color printer. I used the pre-colored digi images, which makes creating a card a breeze! I die cut out each image with my Tonic Tangerine machine and used the Tonic Scalloped Circle Layering Basics die set. I blended some ink onto the edges of the circles to help make the edges pop. I created my card base by die cutting a shape using the Tonic Swirling Frame Layering Die Set. I colored the cardstock with Copic markers to make it a solid blue. Then, I stamped the coffee cup stain and journaling stamps from the Journal Mixed Media stamp set using different Nuvo hybrid inks from the Sea Siren and Tropical Fruits collections (more on this below). Then, I laid the Stampendous Butterfly Field Metal Stencil on my background, and stenciled white embossing paste, Nuvo Blue Topaz Glimmer Paste, and Nuvo Raspberry Rhodolite Glimmer Paste through the stencil. I moved the stencil around so I didn't have a solid coverage anywhere, which was the look I was going for. I also squeezed on some Nuvo Simply White Crystal Drops to the edges and on some of the circles. You can see the full background and the images here.

I also added extra sparkle to the images. For the cupcake, I rolled on Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen onto strategic parts of the cupcake and sprinkled on Caspia Sea, Butterscotch, and Pink Fizz glitters.

For the clouds, I rolled on more Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen and sprinkled on Butterscotch glitter onto the yellow balloon, and Pink Fizz onto the pink balloon. I also sprinkled Caspia Sea onto the clouds.

I also blinged up the unicorn! I rolled on more Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen and sprinkled on Caspia Sea and Pink Fizz onto the unicorn mane and tail. Check out this cute and sparkly unicorn!

Here is a closeup of the card panel. You can see the journaling stamp image and the "coffee cup stain" image from the Journal Mixed Media stamp. This stamp set was the perfect set to give some texture and color to my image without detracting from the unicorn.

I LOVE unicorns and this sweet little unicorn is just too adorable. This stamp set comes in both rubber and digi. Both are really fun, and I can't wait to see what you create! I used the digital image, and sized the sentiment to how I wanted it on my computer. Then, I printed it out onto white cardstock. Then, I die cut the sentiment panel with a Tonic Jasmine Sunset Layering die, using my Tonic Tangerine (AWESOME!). This die cuts these really cool little flower spaces. I laid some 2-1/2" Tear-ific Tape behind the die cut and trimmed it to fit. I burnished in Gecko glitter. Such a gorgeous glitter! I also squeezed on some Yellow Bird glitter drops under the sentiment.

I created this card to be a bit of a gatefold card. I added multiple flowers from My Wild Rose and layered them up to create a rose panel. I copied it and reversed it to create a second mirror image. I printed it out using my color printer, then fussy cut around the edges. I scored and adhered the flaps behind my card panel. I also die cut another piece of cardstock using Tonic's Mixed Edge Rectangle Layering Basic Die Set. I swiped some (beautiful!) Custard Cream Embellishment Mousse from Tonic. This dried really quickly. As soon as it was dry, I adhered it onto the black card base, and then adhered the panel and gatefold panel onto the yellow rectangle.

And, of course, I blinged up the roses! I rolled out some Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen onto strategic rose areas and the leaves. I colored the leaves with Margarita glitter, and the roses with both Butterscotch and Peach Bellini glitters.

This was a really fun card to make, and those Wild Roses make me so happy. What an amazing stamp set! I had a lot of fun with this stamp set! I used some metallic watercolors in my stash to color some watercolor paper a shimmery pink. Then, I stamped out the sentiment onto watercolor paper. I treated the paper with my Anti Static Bag, and inserted it into my Tonic Tim Holtz Stamp Platform. I inked up my stamp with Versafine Onyx Black ink, and stamped it onto the watercolor cardstock. I inked and stamped again to make sure I got a solid impression. Then, I removed the paper, sprinkled on Clear Detail embossing powder and heat set it. I die cut the sentiment using a label die from my stash. Then, I fussy cut a border from black cardstock and layered the sentiment label over the border cardstock. I swiped the outer edge with my Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen and then sprinkled on some Cloud Nine glitter. As I finished adding all the layers to my card, I squeezed on some Nuvo Simply White Crystal Drops. You can see all the embossing powder, glitter and drops below.

I created a Colorful Cosmos Garden by masking off the image (more on that below). I used my Tonic Tim Holtz Stamp Platform for the masked stamping, and also stamped out the Cosmoses with Versafine Onyx Black ink, which is a waterproof ink. After I had everything stamped out, I used metallic watercolor paints from my stash to color in the Cosmos blooms and the background. When I was done with all my coloring, I used a frame die to cut the teeny thin frame from the image. I also die cut the frame again with Tonic Pink Chiffon Mirror Card Satin Effect, and then pieced all the pieces back together and substituted the pink mirror card for that inner frame I had die cut out. After I pieced it all back together, I rolled out some Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen onto the flower petals and sprinkled on glitters. I used: Autumn Frost, Caspia Sea, Pink Fizz, Butterscotch, Tangerine, and Gecko glitters to embellish the Cosmos blooms. You can see all that amazing sparkle below.

The photo below shows how I created and used the mask to make the Cosmos garden. I placed the stamp inside the Tonic Tim Holtz Stamp Platform, aligned my watercolor cardstock (I normally line up my paper in the bottom corner but because to "hang" the bottom of the stamp image off the bottom edge of the card, I had to move my cardstock higher up on the stamp platform) inside the Stamp Platform. I shut the door, picked up the stamp onto the lid, and inked up the stamp, and stamped it onto the paper. Then, I stamped again onto a post it note and then fussy cut out the post it (see it below, the blue image). I layered the post it over the Cosmos Bloom I had just stamped, cleaned off the stamp, and layered it where I wanted the next batch of flowers to stamp. I repeated this process (stamping the image onto the cardstock, moving the mask to cover what I just stamped, cleaning the stamp, positioning the stamp where I wanted it next - which overlaid part of the previous stamp, or butted up against it, and inked and stamped again) until I had the full row of Cosmos Blooms for my garden. Masking is a great way to use the same stamp to make a larger image.

This Cosmos Blooms garden was fun to make. I love floral stamps, and this was also really fun to color. I enjoyed pulling out the watercolors and going to town. I started out by stamping the unicorn with Versamark ink, onto a piece of cardstock I had treated with my Anti Static Bag. I used the Tonic Tim Holtz Stamp Platform to stamp the unicorn. I sprinkled on Silver Lightning embossing powder and heat set it. Then, I used paint brushes to brush on the embellishment mousse. I store my mousses in individual zip-close baggies to help keep them from drying out, but if they are too dry, I just mist them with my water mister and this is all I need to do to get them to the consistency I needed to paint the unicorn. When I was done painting the unicorn, I used my Tonic Tangerine die cutting machine and the Tonic Mixed Edge Oval dies to cut out the unicorn and a pearly paper to mat behind it. I also cut out a square from a 12x12 sheet of Lawn Fawn's Watercolor Wishes collection pack paper for the background. And, then I die cut out some of Lawn Fawn's Watercolor Wishes petite paper pack and the Lawn Fawn Stitched Hillside Borders die to make the grass area. I adhered the grass border to the base of the card, and then layered the unicorn oval using foam dimensionals. Then, I started decorating with pearls! I pulled a bunch of pearls from my stash and had a lot of different sizes. I placed the pearls inside the unicorn body and also created a hint of a rainbow with pearls in the upper right corner. In this photo below, you can see all the fun pearls in the body and the sparkly Silver Lightning embossing powder!

I used my Copic markers to color white cardstock in coordinating colors, and then stamped the sentiment using Versamark ink and sprinkled on White Detail embossing powder. I heat set it, and then die cut it with the Tonic Tangerine and the Tonic Mixed Edge Oval dies. I adhered a ring of pearls around the sentiment and adhered it using foam dimensionals to the card front.

This was a really fun card to make! I love how the different pearl sizes worked so well on the unicorn, and this was the first time I have painted with Nuvo Embellishment Mousse. It worked great! I will definitely be doing this again. I can't wait to see what you create and put in our Cardz 4 Galz challenge. Good luck!

I started by die cutting a collage picture frame type border from my stash, from green cardstock using my Tonic Tangerine machine. Then, I cut the same die using white cardstock. After this step, I stamped each individual white cardstock piece and inlaid it into the collage frame. Below is one of the inserts. To make this one, I stamped out the Happy Holidays sentiment, using my Tonic Tim Holtz Stamp Platform. I inked up the stamp with Versamark Ink, and stamped it. To make sure I got all the detail, I inked up and stamped again, right over top the same spot (the Stamp Platform works great!). I sprinkled on Forest Green embossing powder and heat set the sentiment. I placed the small leaf stamp onto an acrylic block, inked up the leaf with the Nuvo Safari Green Hybrid Ink, and stamped it onto scrap paper, and then immediately stamped it onto the piece of cardstock. I did this to get a second generation stamp image which isn't as dark as the first generation. I did this several times to get the lighter color to give some background to this panel.

This stamp set has a really great long scripty sentiment too. Because I focused the largest panel for the Happy Holidays sentiment as the statement piece, above, I wasn't sure how to incorporate this sentiment since all the panels were smaller than it, but I really wanted to incorporate it this card. I decided to do the trick from above, and stamp a second generation sentiment onto a panel, to make it provide some texture and background to the card while using the sentiment. Here is what it ended up looking like. I really like it.

Here are two other panels that I stamped out. I did some first generation and second generation stamping on these panels to get some different color shades. I also stamped over the leaves with Versamark ink and sprinkled on Clear Detail embossing powder and heat set it. This gave the leaves a shiny covering!

Here is the full card. After inlaying all the white pieces into the collage frame, I adhered strips of 1/4" Tear-ific Tape along the outer edge of the card base. I adhered the collage frame section into the center of the card base, and then burnished in some 24KT Gold glitter into the rest of the exposed Tear-ific Tape. I squeezed on some Woodland Green and Simply White Crystal Drops in places across the card, and this card was done!

What a wonderful spring day! Sparkle N Sprinkle revealed the Tulip Squares stamp set in April, and here is the card I made using this new stamp. I also used Embossable Acetate and made a window see-through panel for the front of the card.

I started by stamping out the Tulip Squares stamp image, with Jet Black Stazon ink, onto Clear Embossable Acetate, using my Tonic Tim Holtz Stamp Platform. I removed the Acetate from my Stamp Platform, turned it over, and colored the tulip, leaves, and lady bugs with Copic markers. Then, still on the back of the acetate, I rolled on some Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen onto the backside of the tulip, and sprinkled on Butterscotch glitter. I let that dry, then rolled on more glue onto the lady bugs and sprinkled on Burgundy Glitz glitter. The flower and lady bugs sparkled a lot! I die cut out a square from the front of my cardstock base, using Tonic's Scalloped Squares Layering Basic Die Set and my Tonic Tangerine machine. I also die cut out a scalloped frame and adhered the frame over the acetate and to the card base.

I stamped out the ladybug stamp onto white cardstock, and stamped it with Versafine Black Onyx ink, again using my Tonic Tim Holtz Stamp Platform. I sprinkled on Black Magic embossing powder and heat set it. I fussy cut the ladybug out, then rolled on more Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen onto the ladybug wings and sprinkled on more Burgundy Glitz glitter. Once it all dried, I squeezed on some Nuvo Ebony Black Crystal Drops for the ladybug dots. I stamped out the sentiment with Versafine Black Onyx ink and sprinkled on more Black Magic embossing powder. I heat set it, and then die cut out the sentiment with one of Tonic's Scalloped Squares Layering Basic Die Set. I also cut 1/4" and 1/8" strips of Tonic's Honey Gold Satin Effect and Harvest Gold High Gloss Mirror Card Stock, rolled some glue onto the back of them, and layered them across the front of the card. I mounted the sentiment block onto some foam tape, and layering it over the cardstock strips. 

Here is a close up of the tulip and lady bug glitter (which is on the backside of the acetate).

I really like the look of this see-through window card and I love how the glitter on the back side of the image really sparkles. What fun! Gonna definitely be doing this again.

I treated cardstock with my Anti Static Bag, then stamped out the ornament, using my Tonic Tim Holtz Stamp Platform, and Versamark ink. I then sprinkled on some Gold Coast embossing powder and heat set it. I colored my image with Copic markers, and then rolled on some Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen and sprinkled on Pink Fizz glitter onto the ornament. You can see in this photo below, how pretty the Pink Fizz glitter is!

I added more glitter to the ornament hanger. I rolled on more Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen and sprinkled on Shamrock glitter for the holly leaves, and Gypsy Red for the berries.

I stamped out the sentiment using the Tonic Tim Holtz Stamp Platform, and sprinkled on Gold Coast embossing powder and heat set it. Here is a close up of the sentiment. I also die cut out the ornament and sentiment using my Tonic Tangerine machine, and the Tonic Mixed Edge Oval Layering Basics Die Set. 

I cut out four white cardstock ovals and four scalloped ovals from Tonic's Pink Chiffon Satin Effect Mirror Cardstock, using Tonic's Mixed Edge Oval Layering Basics Die Set. I also cut out two white cardstock panels using Tonic's Deco Diamond Patterned Panels Die Set. Then, I die cut the panels into a rectangular shape with Tonic's Mixed Edge Rectangle Layering Basics Die Set. I scored one of the Deco rectangles about 1/4" from the top, folded it, added adhesive, and layered the front and back of the card together. I stamped the inside sentiment using Versamark ink and sprinkled on Princess Rose embossing powder and heat set it. After this step was done, I layered the white ovals over the pink ovals, and lined up the ovals on the front of the card, back of the card front, inside the card, and the back of the back of the card. This way, when the card is closed, all the ovals line up and you can't see all of them, since the card is see-through.

Sparkle N Sprinkle Calla Lillies [04.18.2018]

Hi! Today's card is using one of Sparkle N Sprinkle's new April reveal stamp sets, Calla Lillies. I LOVE this stamp set, and these calla lillies are gorgeous. This set tends towards a sympathy stamp set, but I wanted to show how it could also be converted into something bright. I also created some depth and clean lines. Let's check out the card.

I started by stamping out the calla lilly stamp, in my Tonic Tim Holtz Stamp Platform, and Versafine Black Onyx ink (works great with water color mediums!) on two 4.25" x 5.5" pieces of cardstock. The Stamp Platform worked out really well because I was able to stamp two copies of the same image in the exact same spot on the cardstock. I colored one of them using my Zig brush markers, and then placed it in my Stamp Platform and stamped it again with the Versafine Black Onyx ink and then sprinkled on Clear Detail embossing powder and heat set it. I stamped the other piece of cardstock again (the one that hadn't been colored) and also added Clear Detail embossing powder and heat set it. Then, I layered an oval die using one of the Tonic Mixed Edge Oval Layering Basics Die set ovals. I offset the oval to the edge of the cardstock. I layered the non-colored oval-cut cardstock panel over the colored one and lined up the images and adhered the layers together with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive. Note, it is easier to use a wet adhesive for something like this because it allows a little bit of wiggle room time to get the images perfectly lined up. This was really easy to do! Then, I rolled on some Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen onto areas of the colored calla lillies and sprinkled on Pink Fizz, Tangerine, and Gecko glitters to help color the flowers and leaves. You can see those awesome flowers below.

I stamped out a sentiment from the Flower Girl - Magic in You stamp set with Versamark ink, using my Stamp Platform, and sprinkled on Princess Rose embossing powder and heat set it. Here is a close up of the sentiment. Note, I also die cut the card panel with my Tonic Tangerine machine, and the Tonic Mixed Edge Rectangle Layering Basics Die Set. I also matted that cardstock panel with some of the Emerald Green High Gloss Mirror card stock - which is GORGEOUS!

And, to top it all off, I squeezed on some Nuvo Woodland Green Crystal Drops at the bottom of the card, and sprinkled on more Gecko glitter to give it even more sparkle and some additional texture. I also used more Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive and added some of the white flowers fro the Paper Blooms Coconut collection. I brushed on some Deluxe Adhesive to the petals, and sprinkled on some Diamond Dust glitter to give a lot more shine! So pretty!

Sparkle N Sprinkle Amazing You Paisley Elephant card [04.04.2018]

Hi! Designer Chris with another card from Sparkle N Sprinkle's March release! Let's check out this card I made using the Amazing You - Paisley Elephant stamp set. I wanted to highlight the paisley print within the elephant, and also give it an antiqued feel. This is what I created with these ideas in mind. Let's check it out together!

Here is a close-up of all the layers and the Photoplay Rhapsody paper as one of the layers. It also shows the cracked Clear Detail embossing powder over the paisley elephant, the gold gilding flakes, super thick gold embossing powder and the distressing I did. More info below!

And, here is a shot of the distressed sentiment area. I stamped the sentiment using my Tonic Tim Holtz Stamp Platform. I inked up my stamp with Versamark ink, and stamped it. I sprinkled on Copper embossing powder and heat set it. Then, I distressed the edges and matted the sentiment with black cardstock. Here are those amazing Copper and Super Thick Gold embossing powders.

Now, a lot of information about how I created the card. I started out by stamping the elephant onto kraft cardstock, using the Tonic Tim Holtz Stamp Platform. I inked up the stamp with Versamark ink, and stamped it onto the paper. I kept the stamp in the stamp platform for the next step...

After I stamped the elephant with Versamark ink, I removed the stamped cardstock and colored the elephant with pink, orange, and white colored pencils. I placed the stamped image back inside my Tonic Tim Holtz Stamp Platform and inked up my stamp with Versamark ink again. I stamped it again, and then removed it and sprinkled on White Detail embossing power and heat set it. You can see in the image below how I colored the elephant (just some of the paisley pattern prints, and not all of them), and what it looked like before I put on the embossing powder. This really works for me - to color the image before I put on the embossing powder. Sometimes I bump up against embossing powder and knick it or knock it out of the way when I am coloring, so I have learned to stamp it again, and then emboss it after coloring ... a stamp platform really makes this easy to do!

After I did the White Detail embossing powder layer, I then did the Clear Detail "crackle" layer to make it look aged and antiqued. I die cut out the elephant stamped, colored, and embossed image with the Tonic Sunray Venus Layering Basics Die Set and my Tangerine machine (AWESOME!). Then, I inked up my entire card piece with Versamark ink, sprinkled on Clear Detail embossing powder and heat set it. I repeated this step about 10 times ... I kept inking up the image, dumping on Clear Detail, heat setting it, and repeating! I did this over and over so much that the elephant panel became pretty thick! Just what I wanted ... Then, I put it into the freezer and let it sit in there and chill for at least 10 minutes. Then, I took it out and cracked it by bending and twisting it several times. Here is a photo of it right after I did all the cracking. You gotta move fast too, because it won't crack once it is thawed. And, then to finish this layer off, I blended some brown ink over the top of the image to darken up the lines as well.

I wanted to add a lot of distressing to this card. I needed to add some texture to the entire card. I pulled out my Tonic Filigree Affections Idyllics Die and Embossing Folder Set. I inked up the inside of the embossing folder with a brown ink (but not perfectly), and then inserted my kraft cardstock panel into the folder and ran it through my Tangerine machine. The photo below shows the ink inside the embossing folder. This gave my kraft cardstock some texture and color and aged it a bit!

I distressed all the edges. I also die cut a piece of patterned paper from the Photoplay Rhapsody collection with another Sunray Venus Layering Basics Die Set. I also rolled on some Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen onto the edges of the patterned paper layer, let it dry to tacky, then burnished in some Radiant Gold gilding flakes from Nuvo. This really pulled everything together! I layered everything up, sprinkled on some Super Thick Gold embossing powder and heat it from below (it is super chunky and will fly away if hit directly with the air from the heat gun.

This card was really fun to make and a departure from my comfort style. It was really fun to make a card with a lot of distressing and the Clear Detail embossing crackle. It is nice to step outside my comfort zone and try something new. I'm glad I did. I love this old, elegant elephant.
